About Me
Hello, I’m Seth Graves. Thank you for taking the time to check out my portfolio. Here’s a bit about my journey…
My introduction to photography was a little unconventional. As a police detective for over 30 years, I was called to countless crime scenes. Part of my job required capturing these scenes meticulously, so I received extensive training in lighting, camera angles, exposure, and composition. Through this, I learned to see the camera as a powerful tool, and my curiosity (along with a bit of ADHD!) drove me to explore it even further.
In early 2010, I was lucky to land a part-time freelance job as a photographer for the local newspaper, though I was a bit unsure at first. I learned on the job, and over time, I found my stride.
A few years later, I joined Gatehouse Media as a freelancer, and this was the turning point for me. I began landing larger assignments, including covering Michigan Wolverine football games. My work took me to incredible venues like Ford Field, Comerica Park, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Purdue, Western Michigan, and Nebraska.
When Gatehouse Media was acquired, my role ended, and I briefly stepped away from photography. But my passion never faded—it just went dormant. Now, I’m excited to dive back in and start the next chapter in my photographic journey!
